A Limit on Federal Spending - blog this issue The Federal government in 2008 spent over $10,000 for every man, woman, and children in our country. Neither the President nor the vast majority of Congress have the guts, courage, discipline, or vision to end this irresponsible waste. To make matters even worse, a March 2009 report by the Congressional Budget Office estimated that by 2019, we will be ANOTHER $9,000,000,000,000 in debt. (Refer to page 2 of the report and see this article in the Washington Post.) This uncontrolled, undisciplined fiscal insanity. How can we, the people, force Congress into taking a new path? By limiting the amount of money they have to spend. We mandate that they can only spend 10% of our adjusted gross incomes (about $8,000,000,000,000 in 2008). So if the Federal "budget" this year is $3.5 trillion, that value would have to be decreased by $200 billion dollars a year until 2019. Limiting the amount of money Congress has to spend in this manner would force them to cut spending by about two thirds. At current rates, by 2019 this would let them spend about $4,000 for every man, woman, and child in the country. Congress would then have to actually prioritize spending based on what the Constitution mandates. No more would they be able to overreach into areas that should belong to the States. And no more borrowing money unless we have a declared war. We, the people, will push back until they do. Expected date of
