Election Contribution Reform It is widely believed that there is too much money in elections. Barack Obama's spending of almost a billion dollars during the 2008 presidential election might be evidence of this. Although it might be true, but who is Congress ("McCain-Feingold") to tell us what we can and cannot do with our own money? Congress needs to pass a law that only individuals who can vote in a certain election can contribute to someone running for that particular office. This will eliminate corporations, political parties, 501(c)3s, PACs, unions, and so forth from financing political campaigns. These corporate entities would still be able to air ads and the like, but could not donate directly to any particular candidate. Only individuals voters could do that. We, the people, will push back until they do. Expected date of
completion: the end of 2012 |
