A Replacement of the Current Tax Code with a Combined Income/Sales Tax

The Federal government should only be able to collect taxes using a combined income/sales tax.  A combination (67% income/33% sales) would not excessively punish those who have little or no income; it would not excessively punish consumption; and it would collect taxes from those who are working illegally for cash. There could be different tax rates for different items (cars, clothing, and houses).  But the amount of money will be limited to 15% GACI, so we will not be taxed to death as we are now. We want Congress to commit to phase out the current form of taxation by 2014 and replace it with a flat, combined income/sales tax.

There would be one temporary exception to exceeding this limit:  an additional 5% would be levied until our public debt is retired.  We allowed Congress to get us into this mess, now we have to get out of it.  Once the public debt is retired, the Constitutional limit of 15% would go back into effect, never to be exceeded again unless we have a declared war or we, the people, vote to fund a project.

We will push back until they do.
